Music Magnate has not been seen at the races since winter, but remains an outright $2.10 favourite in 2017 Expressway Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Kuro ($3.80) and Ball Of Muscle ($4.80).

Will Music Magnate justify his clear favouritism and win the 2017 Expressway Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

Kuro ($3.80)

Kuro has returned to racing in scintillating form this time in, has drawn the rails and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current Expressway Stakes odds. Running second in a pair of Sydney sprints upon resuming in November, the Denman gelding savaged the line for a smart win in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) on December 3rd. While failing to make anything of an impact when seventh in the Listed Razor Sharp Quality (1200m) on a wet track on December 17th, Kuro comfortably won the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) last time out on January 13th. A dry track is imperative, however Kuro should just be too good for his rivals in the Expressway Stakes.

Ball Of Muscle ($4.80)

Ball Of Muscle has also found competitive form this time in and should have no issue finding the pace early in the Expressway Stakes from barrier 4. Returning to the paddock for a freshen-up after finishing fifth in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m), the Dubawi gelding ran a credible sixth in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) first-up before maintaining to the line well for third in the Takeover Target Stakes. The horse has reportedly stripped fitter for the run and will be partnered by in-form hoop Tim Clark in the Expressway Stakes.

Music Magnate ($2.10)

Music Magnate’s class is sure to count for a lot in the small Expressway Stakes field, but the gelding faces a big task in lugging 58.5kgs first-up. Resuming last year for a smart win in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m), the Written Tycoon gelding progressed to second in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) before flying home to win the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m). Having returned to the paddock after failing to fire and sixteenth in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 11th, Music Magnate has trialled well in the lead-up to his return and will be partnered by Kerrin McEvoy in the Expressway Stakes.
