Sprint king Joe Pride is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the feature race after including both Kuro and Ball Of Muscle in 2017 Expressway Stakes nominations.

Kuro has posted a commendable eight wins and as many minors through twenty-seven career starts so far, and has returned to slick form through five starts this time in.

Running second in a pair of Sydney sprints over 1200m and 1100m upon resuming, the Denman gelding returned to winning form in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) on December 3rd.

Simply failing to handle the heavy going when seventh in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) on December 17th, Kuro returned to winning form with a dominant performance for success in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) last time out on January 13th.

Ball Of Muscle has secured a similarly impressive record of eight wins and eleven minors through twenty-four starts and has steadily built to the task this time in.

Resuming from a freshen-up to finish sixth in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m), the Dubawi gelding ran a tough third in the Takeover Target Stakes last time out and should have taken plenty of benefit from the performance.

Handfast has not been seen at the races since early October, but is poised to make his competitive return on Saturday after being included in Expressway Stakes nominations.

Winner of the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) most notably in last autumn, Handfast performed well through three spring starts, which included a strong fourth in the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m).

Peter & Paul Snowden are also set to be well represented in the Expressway Stakes field after including both Attention and Dothraki in nominations.

Attention made a name for himself as a two-year-old during the 2016 Brisbane Winter Carnival; running second to Winning Rupert in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) before taking out the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) most notably.

Dothraki returned to racing for a spirited fourth in the Magic Millions Sprint (1200m) a fortnight ago and has reportedly taken plenty of condition from the run.
