Bagman a Chance for 2015 Expressway Stakes Success

January 27th, 2015

A standout for the Rosehill Gardens trainer over the 2014 Spring Carnival, Chris Waller has confirmed talented veteran Bagman will return to racing in Saturday’s featured Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) ahead of an autumn preparation geared towards the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) on March 21st.

Securing an impressive race record of 12 wins and a further 15 minor place finishes over his 42 start career so far, Bagman has not been seen at the races since boxing on for an impressive fifth in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick on October 4th.

Having reportedly taken well to his time away from racing, Waller told AAP he has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by the son of Easy Rocking since returning to work and believes he may figure as a surprise packet for success in the 2015 Expressway Stakes.

“He has done really well and could be a surprise packet,” Waller said.

Failing to make much of an impact over his first two starts in 2014, Bagman quickly responded in running second to Scream Machine in the Natski Handicap (1500m) on June 28th.

Continuing to impress when finishing in the first three in two minor events over 1600m and 1800m respectively, Bagman won both the Valley Handicap (2040m) and Badge Appeal Handicap (2000m) before running third in each of the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) in his only other starts prior to The Metropolitan.

Having included an impressive list of five runners in 2015 Expressway Stakes nominations, Waller said classy miler Boban is also ready for his autumn campaign return while he is yet to decide on whether or not French import Weary will take his place at Rosehill on Saturday.

“The aim for Boban is another Chipping Norton Stakes,” Waller said.

“Then he will probably have a break and maybe get ready for the Brisbane carnival.

“I’m not sure if Weary will run or wait for another couple of weeks.”

A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Expressway Stakes is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
