The 2011 Expressway Stakes, the first Group feature of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, is shaping up as a top-class showdown as two of Sydney’s premier sprinters Hay List and Hot Danish are both set to kick off their autumn campaigns in the Group 2 feature on February 5 at Rosehill.
Gosford-based trainer John McNair has confirmed the $200,000 Expressway Stakes (1200m) as the first-up assignment for his massive Statue Of Liberty gelding Hay List while classy mare Hot Danish will also start her autumn campaign in the Expressway.
Five-year-old Hay List enjoyed great success during the winter/spring season with his biggest achievement being the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) under the lights at Moonee Valley on September 24.
A winner of 12 of his 15 career starts, the ever-consistent Hay List enjoyed four wins on the trot before facing Australia’s top-rated sprinter Black Danish in the Group 1 Patinack Classic (1200m) where after a marred lead-up due to injury he finished over 11 lengths away sixth from Peter Moody’s unbeaten mare.
Hay List will get his chance to turn the tables on Black Caviar again during the autumn with the pair nominated for the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12, Black Caviar the raging favourite in the online futures markets for the race.
Meanwhile, seven-year-old Hot Danish will also draw plenty of love from the punters in the 2011 Expressway Stakes betting as the multiple Group 1 winner attempts to add a 17th win to her impressive career record that has accumulated in excess of $2.26million in prize money.
The nominations for the Expressway will be released on Monday January 31 and then the 2011 Expressway Stakes final field will be published here on February 2, so bookmark this site!
